Historical Italian garden

wharton_deste2I’m a sucker for a pretty picture, especially a historical one.  This is one of the many beautiful slides the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s McLean Libary has in it’s wonderful collection and was shared with some 75 guests during a recent lecture on Italian gardens.  The image is from Edith Wharton’s Italian villas and gardens  (Wharton, Edith, 1862-1937. New York, Century, 1905). I would like to be there now.  To learn more about McLean Library and PHS, please visit the PHS Village at the Flower Show.
