Flowers, Mermaids and Lost Cities

by

One thing most Flower Show visitors realize is how much planning goes into the exhibits.

We had the privilege of sitting down with Bill Schaffer of Schaffer Designs and flipping through the pages of his top-secret Flower Show binder. Inside were sketches, photos, color swatches, and computer print-outs chockfull of research.

Bill’s muse this time around is the lost city of Atlantis. Visitors will submerge into the murky ocean depths and discover horticultural treasures fathoms below. Holding court will be six mermaids inspired by the mythology and folklore of not only Rome, but Africa, Japan, and elsewhere. If you’ve never heard the legend of Thessalonike, it’s pretty awesome. It’s the ancient tale of a vengeful mermaid!
