New PHS Girls Scout Patch at Flower Show

The New PHS Girl Scout Patch.

If there’s a young Girl Scout in your family, bring her in uniform to the 2010 International Flower Show for only $7 on Girl Scout Day-Sunday March 7th.

A special ceremony will be held for Girls Scouts who’ve participated in the new PHS patch program “Planting Seeds, Growing Lives: Grow, Explore, Lead.”  The program encourages Girl Scouts to develop greening projects and learn about planting and caring for vegetables, flowers and trees in their own communities.

More than 140 scouts from throughout eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and as far away as Florida have completed these projects and will be honored on Girl Scout Day.   The scouts will receive a voucher for the patch and a special token of their dedication to preserving the natural environment.

An Indian dance performance by Lehigh Valley Girl Scout Avani Dalal will be a special highlight for the day.  Speakers at the program include, Patricia James, director of the PHS Education Department, and a former Girl Scout;  ACME Markets’ President, Judy Spires, a former recipient of the Girl Scouts’ Juliette Gordon Low Leadership Award for extraordinary vision and impact; and Barbara Hill, the interim CEO of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania.

There will be no admission charge for anyone who wants to attend the Girl Scout Day event only. The program runs from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in Room 107 in the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Adult tickets for The Flower Show are $26 on March 7, students (ages 17-24) $18.
