Philadelphia has a long, rich history in horticulture.  In fact, many of America’s most famous gardens and garden companies are based both in Center City and the suburbs. In 2010 we’re bringing you lectures from experts at W. Atlee Burpee & Co., one of America’s oldest and best-known garden companies based in Bucks County, PA.

George Ball, chairman of W. Atlee Burpee & Co. and proprietor of Heronswood Nursery, will speak on “The Future of Plant Collecting” on opening day, Sunday, February 28 at 11:30 am. Burpee’s Simon Crawford, a plant explorer and horticulturist, will talk about “Vegetables From Around the World” on Thursday, March 4 at 10:30 am.

George Ball

Both Ball and Crawford are enthusiastic gardeners with a lifetime of experience in horticulture. Ball is a past president of the American Horticulture Society. Crawford, a renowned plant breeder and collector, is a member of the Royal Horticultural Society Herbaceous Plant Committee and is a past judge at the Chelsea Flower Show in England.

We hope you will attend these and other lectures and demonstrations offered everyday at the Flower Show. Click here to see a complete schedule.
