SEPTA Worker Getting into the Flower Show Spirit

SEPTA attendant Matt Carcel has a creative way to celebrate the Flower Show

The Philadelphia International Flower Show is an exciting time for many people who work in and around Center City Philadelphia. For SEPTA R5 Regional Rail worker, Matt Carcel, the Flower Show is a great time for self-expression.

Heading into Center City from the Main Line, Carcel punches tickets on the R5 with a bright smile and a bright tie. His homemade creation, a light up yellow tie with blue flowers, incorporates a low Watt string of battery-powered lights. “I poke holes in the tie and thread the lights through it,” says Carcel.

Carcel likes to wear festive ties for all types of occasions, like a green one for St. Patrick’s day. For the Flower Show, he wears a different floral tie each day (he has a blue one ready for tomorrow) and yes, that flower pinned to his badge actually squirts water.
