The Orchid, Up Close and Personal

If you get up close to a Flower Show orchid, like the Cattleya pictured here, you can see its wonderful architecture, coloring, and all-important reproductive organs. In fact, everything on a flower like this is designed to attract an insect that will become coated with the plant’s pollen. The bug then flies off to another flower of the same species and…voila!..pollination takes place, making way for baby orchids by the score. Isn’t nature amazing?
