How Does Hunter Hayes Do It?

by

Every year the team from Hunter Hayes Landscape Design creates a stunning setting that is also earth-friendly. If you visited the Flower Show in 2009, you likely remember their veggie garden of pizza toppings  (the theme was Bella Italia, after all).

For Passport to the World we have “Home, Green Home” a backyard display that sends an important message. Overhead is a green roof loaded with hardy plants that help to absorb water. What’s more, the green roof reduces cooling expenses and is better suited to endure the elements.

The gutters lead to a rain barrel, which stores rainfall for future use. Why let it seep into the sewers when it can help you water your plants all summer long? Your flowers and wallet will thank you! The exhibit also features a water filter, compost bin, and tires that have been recycled into stepping stones.

The overall message is simple: a smaller ecological footprint doesn’t require a compromise of style. Why bother traveling the world when you have a backyard this beautiful and sustainable.
