J. Downend Goes for Flower Show Glory!

It seems such a pity, right? The way participants in Le Tour de France race through the countryside without taking in beauty? Luckily the cyclist depicted in the exhibit created by J. Downend Landscaping (411 Smiley St., Crum Lynne, PA 19022) is willing to make the most of his race by collecting items along the way.

In the overstuffed wagon being tugged by the bike, you’ll find soccer balls, wine bottles, baguettes, paintings, and more. You’ll also detect shopping bags from fine French retailers like Cartier and Louis Vuitton. Signage explains the French connection to items that may look like they don’t belong, such as a four-foot Statue of Liberty. Believe us, everything in this cart has a story.

The plants and flowers featured in this exhibit are mostly yellow, which is the color of the Tour de France winner’s jersey. (You can probably picture Lance Armstrong wearing it.) Look for yellow daisies, tulips, and black-eyed Susans.

Tom Morris of Downend says, “We didn’t want to take ourselves too seriously this year. We were going for something playful that would make people stop and look.” Well Tom, it looks like you won the race!
