The Flower Show’s Premier Sponsor, Subaru of America, is sponsoring another big event, the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia.
More than 2,000 cherry blossoms now reside in Fairmount Park after being donated by the association that runs the festival, the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia (JASGP), and the Japanese government (who contributed 1,600 trees as a gesture of friendship in 1926).
Running through April 15, the festival celebrates the season of blooming for the poignant pink trees and honors the cultural, social, and educational customs of Japan and the United States. The delicate beauty of the flowering buds will have particular significance this year in light of the tragedies in Tohoku, as they will remind all of the resilience and strength of the Japanese people and encourage hope and renewal for their future.
